After Placement

There are a few things that are important to know after a VP Shunt has been placed that some surgeons forget to mention that patients should know. I've written a small bullet point list that will hopefully help people better understand what they won't be able to do anymore after the shunt has been placed.

  1. Metal Detectors - You're going to make them go off
  2. No Scuba Diving
  3. MRI - Yes but if the shunt is programmable, it WILL have to be re-programmed within 7 days of the MRI.
  4. No High Altitude Mountain Climbing
  5. Don't get hit in the head
